The Challenge
For Non-Governmental Organisations and the Third Sector generally, showing leadership
in sustainability is often about challenging government, business and the public
to go well beyond their comfort zones.
As advocates, members of the Third Sector must be consistent in their own behaviour
with the causes they fight and the values they promote. The multi-dimensional
nature of sustainability can mean that Third Sector organisations are confronting
areas outside of their expertise which are increasingly seen to have relevance
to core concerns and activities.
In facing these challenges the Third Sector has two advantages:

- It works to a far longer time frame than business, recognising that an
investment today may reap ever-growing rewards.
