Leadership -
Business Sustainability, Change and Management
The Challenge
For business, sustainable development is largely about preserving
market share, reducing risk and maximising opportunities.
By implementing sustainable development principles now, businesses
have a real opportunity to make a step change in their long term
productivity levels, efficient use of resources and attractiveness
of their products and services.
Conversely, those organisations that do not implement sustainable
development principles face damage to their brand and standing,
lower productivity, staff loss and increased compliance and resource
costs.
Businesses in particular face loss of market share as they miss
out on opportunities to lower costs, improve productivity, increase
differentiation and increase market awareness, adaptability and
flexibility.
Environmentally, businesses demonstrate leadership by operating
as net contributors rather than as net consumers of the world's
resources. |

In practical terms, this may mean:
-
Exceeding regulatory environmental standards, both for the business and its supply chain
- Re-engineering operations to avoid impacts on threatened species, resources and places
- Predicting resource availability more efficiently.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is centre stage in most
board rooms. It is understood to have a direct impact on public
perception, shareholder satisfaction and share value. Businesses
are seen as having an explicit duty of care to act responsibly
to their employees, customers, and the community in which they
reside as well as to their shareholders. To do this effectively
requires both an understanding of developing fields and issues
and active engagement with relevant communities and stakeholder
groups.
How we can help
Thirdwave has worked with many companies from Blue Chip organisations
through to SMEs. We design and implement successful sustainable
development strategies and objectives which companies adopt as
part of their wider business strategy.
We outline where active promotion of related legislation benefits
rather than hinders company positioning. We use sustainable development
principles to help companies increase productivity, reduce costs
and minimise risk while maximising profits over both the short
and long term.
